The SMPP 3.4 Specification

SMPP, is short for: ‘Short Message Peer to peer Protocol’. SMPP is a binary, application layer protocol for sending SMS messages through the internet.

It’s common for transferring very high volumes of SMS messages in a short time. Its application is mostly between SMS providers or to connect a business to a provider directly.

There are a couple of versions of the SMPP protocol but version 3.4 has seen the most widespread adoption.
