Receiving error 30201 (‘Unable to select device’) with GSM modem. What is wrong ?

The GSM modem consumes power when receiving and sending messages, because signals have to be transmitted to the network.

USB modems get the power from the USB port of the PC, sometimes this is not enough and the modem will restart due to power loss.

Please try the following:

  • Try another USB port;
  • Connect the modem via an USB hub;
  • Make sure the signal strength is okay; Move the modem to another location;
  • Use an USB Y cable, which takes power from two USB ports.
